We might be biased – being the brains behind it all – but here are just a few of the reasons why joining the Creative Industries Federation Community membership programme would be a truly terrible idea… a horrifying thought… the worst thing you could possibly do for your business…

“I wouldn’t want to brag about signing the Creative Industries Charter”

By being able to brandish yourself with our logo, you’ll be able to demonstrate to your clients and competition just how dedicated you are to achieving creative excellence. Being part of the charter and flaunting it will help bolster your business within the industry and the conviction with which you’re committed to protecting your interests.

“Being the owner of such bragging rights might motivate others in the sector to want to better themselves too, or make you seem far too confident about what you can offer when marketing yourself… best not then.”

“Why swap useless junk mail for industry insights and official updates?”

If you sign up to become a Community member, prepare to have your knowledge of the sector and everything that’s going on in and around it expanded on a regular basis. We do this with via emails, access to our marketing-leading content via our website and resources, and our dynamic newsletter packed to the brim with the latest industry news, empowering insights and research hot off the press.

“I love getting late night emails from LovelyLaura69 and what she gets up to after dark, or personalised marketing pieces from a company I’ve literally never even heard of before. Wouldn’t want to clog up my inbox with useful information and invites in case I missed out on one of those.”

“Direct access to members-only jobs? I’d rather trawl recruitment sites.”

Once you gain access to our members portal, you’ll be privy to a whole plethora of gated job vacancies and project opportunities posted by our partners, trade bodies and fellow members. These jobs will be of a high quality – specific to the sector and sympathetic to the needs and requirements of those operating within it so you know you’ll be in good company.

“Hmmm… I think I’ll stick to the job listings sites. I quite enjoy uploading my creative portfolio and then having my voicemail full of messages from recruiters looking for accountants, school teachers, marine biologists, Michelin-star chefs and astronauts.”

“Funding shmunding. Now where did I leave my nest egg…”

“I’ve got some savings in my sock drawer so I’m sure I’ll be alright. Well, as long as I eat beans on toast for three weeks of the month but don’t worry, I’ll make sure it’s wholemeal bread.”

“Who needs a community directory when you can just talk to your cat?

Joining the Community means getting you and your work in front of our network of freelancers, creative businesses, influential partners and key decision-makers. These are the types of people you want to be taking pearls of wisdom from when it comes to fine-tuning your own offering and blossoming in your niche. Being at such close proximity to the directory means you’ve got invaluable advice and idea-sharing opportunities on tap.

“Advice and idea-sharing both sound too much like a collaborative conversation to me. Why have other experienced people in the industry try and improve my ideas when I could tell Mr Whiskers and he’ll just purr in agreement?”

“Having my voice heard just makes my legs feel like jelly”

When you come a Community member, we take you under our wing to ensure that when you speak and when you’ve got something to say, everybody gets to hear it. We advocate for all of our members at the highest possible level in government – going after what’s best for you, protecting your rates, fighting for your rights and making sure our sector stays at the epicentre of decision-making. We make your voice an integral part of this process so it’s time to sign up and clear your throat.

“Just the idea of speaking up fills me with dread. Think I’d rather just blend into the background and hope somebody hears me whispering at some point. Thanks though.”

“A calendar of exclusive events over another night in front of Netflix? No thanks…”

As part of the membership package, you’ll be on the guestlist for a whole host of invite-only networking events, conferences, meet-ups and online webinars. Your invite will come straight into your email inbox so you never have to miss a date or the opportunity to connect with other likeminded creatives within your industry. You’ll even get free (or discounted) tickets to some of the most empowering thought-leadership coaching workshops out there.

“I might have seen Ross get stuck in those leather pants a million and one times but it never gets any less hysterical. Wouldn’t want to miss another opportunity of having that scene play out in the background while I scroll through social media getting FOMO…”

(Hey, don’t confuse our tongue-in-cheek satire here for a rebuke of Netflix though. We recently shared our curation of the 6 shows every creative should be watching right now* because scratch beneath the surface of tacky reality TV and the Friends back catalogue and there is an entire playground of potential lurking on there!)

So, all jokes aside and back to the serious stuff – we created our Community membership programme to support self-employed freelancers and small ventures just like yours. As we hope you have gleaned from the information above, it’s a support network, it’s a source of solidarity, it’s a platform for vision, it’s a chance to get your voice heard and it might just be the exact stepping stone you require to transform your entrepreneurial spirit into a flourishing empire.

Membership normally starts at £80 (plus VAT) but until September 2020, we’ve made joining free to help freelancers and micro-businesses navigate the COVID-19 economic crisis. For more information, head to our Community membership page or get in touch with our memberships team.
